David Wroughton has done a superb job of restoring the old residence into
a modern hotel without losing any of its oldfashioned enchantment. The
place is filled with antique furnishings, wooden fixtures fashioned from
Oregon pine, and modern Peruvian artwork, while the tiny central courtyard
is a haven of tranquility. Guest rooms come with private bath, hot water,
minibar, and cable television. Suites feature Jacuzzis and kitchenettes
with microwave. TheAntigua is within short walking distance of many good
restaurants in this quiet Miraflores neighborhood. This is my choice as
the best value-for-money hotel in all of Lima.

of the other top-end hotels housed in modern buildings, the Hotel Antigua,
as its name suggests, is in an older mansion that has been converted into
a hotel in a quiet neighborhood that is only a few blocks from central
Miraflores. The public spaces are elegant and decorated with Peruvian art
(both colonial and modern), and the rooms, while comfortable and with all
modern facilities (including bathtubs), have interesting antique
flourishes. The staff is handpicked, friendly and helpful. Rooms vary in
size and range from US$70 to US$100 for a single and US$85 to US$115 for a
double including continental breakfast. The small restaurant also serves
snacks, lunches and dinners

quiet spot, it has all modern conveniences but is also very stylish and
